A Child’s Haven Receives $750,000 Grant from The Duke Endowment
Greenville, SC: A Child’s Haven (ACH) has received a $750,000 grant from The Duke Endowment to support the integration of behavioral health treatment and therapeutic child care services.
A Child’s Haven is a nonprofit organization serving Greenville County that treats children with developmental delays as a result of limited resources, abuse, or neglect, and provides support and education for both the child and their families.
The Duke Endowment award will help ACH’s innovative program model secure scientific evidence required to become a leading early intervention therapeutic child care provider that delivers a holistic approach to rehabilitating children and their families. This support will give ACH the capacity to grow and expand its reach to serve more families in need of behavioral health and therapeutic childcare services. Ultimately, ACH’s program model will be positioned to be replicated by other organizations with similar missions.
“The children and families at ACH struggle to overcome Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) that includes how one manages toxic stress that impact lifelong health and opportunity,” said ACH Executive Director Laurie Rovin. “Thanks to The Duke Endowment, ACH will be able to refine our program, so we can treat more children and families and eventually allow other organizations to duplicate our treatment model.”
The award, $250,000 annually for three years, aligns with ACH’s efforts to diversify public/private sources. FYE18 ACH provided intensive treatment to 149 children and families an increase of 35 total families from FYE17.
Based in Charlotte and established in 1924 by industrialist and philanthropist James B. Duke, The Duke Endowment is a private foundation that strengthens communities in North Carolina and South Carolina by nurturing children, promoting health, educating minds and enriching spirits. Since its founding, it has distributed more than $3.6 billion in grants. The Endowment shares a name with Duke University and Duke Energy, but all are separate organizations.
