$5,000 grant from BB&T Fall for Greenville presented by Pepsi gives A Child’s Haven Chills
Greenville, SC: A Child’s Haven (ACH) has a new freezer courtesy of a $5,000 grant from BB&T Fall for Greenville presented by Pepsi. The new addition is already helping lower food costs.
ACH Chef John Zuber is putting the new equipment to good use, “This freezer saved us $500 in August. I was able to order in bulk and skip a delivery to avoid a food distributor’s delivery fee. At this rate, this freezer will pay for itself within a year.”
The benefits of the new freezer are more than just financial. “The children we serve have small stomachs and may eat only a few tablespoons of food at each meal,” said Executive Director, Laurie Rovin. “This new freezer lets Chef John plan ahead so he can serve a variety of nutritionally sound meals while still being cost-conscious. Thank you, Fall for Greenville!”
Healthy eating in childhood is important for proper growth and development. Meals served by ACH are prepared using United States Department of Agriculture recipes and menus are approved by the Department of Social Services and South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. ACH also partners with LiveWell Greenville to help children and families understand the importance of healthy eating and active living.
